The struggle is real

Does this sound familiar?

You sit down to read together and it goes sideways within two pages.

Reading time should not end in tears.

  • Your child guesses. They glance at the picture and say “dog” when the word says pup.
  • They know some sounds but freeze the moment those sounds have to become a word.
  • Every book is a gamble. Too hard, too boring, or full of words nobody taught them yet.
  • Reading time ends in frustration, and you do not know what to teach next.
  • You are not a teacher and you are tired of guessing what to say on each page.

You are not failing your child. They need books built only from sounds they already know.

Why kids guess

Most beginner books teach guessing

Predictable books repeat a sentence pattern and put a big picture on every page. The child learns to read the picture and the pattern, not the letters. It looks like reading. It is not.

Split diagram: guessing from the picture versus decoding the letters of the word pup sound by sound
Left: guessing from the picture. Right: sounding out the letters.
Ordinary books

Words nobody taught them

When the page holds sounds the child has never learned, the only way forward is to guess. Guessing becomes a habit that is hard to break.

Decodable readers

Every word is readable

Each story uses only the sound patterns taught up to that stage, so your child can rely on the letters. Every page is a win.

The 10-second test

Cover the picture. Still reading?

That is real decoding. If your child can read the sentence with the illustration hidden, they are using the letters. Every story in the library passes this test.

A story page shown twice: once with the illustration and once with the picture covered, the sentence still readable
Cover the picture and the sentence still stands on its own.

How the stories are built

Each story is written from a fixed list of sounds, and every word is checked against it before it goes in the library.

  • 1Only taught sounds. A word with an untaught pattern does not get in.
  • 2A short list of “heart words” (like the and was) that you teach by sight, listed on every lesson.
  • 3Pictures that support the story, not replace the reading.
  • 4Each stage builds on the last, so the child never meets a pattern they were not taught.
The path

You always know what’s next

Nine stages, in order, from first sounds to confident reading. 12 stories in every stage. Not sure where to start? The 3-minute placement test tells you.

Path of nine numbered stepping stones from First Sounds to Big Words
9 stages. 108 stories. One clear path.
Stages 1–3

First sounds to digraphs

Short vowels, the whole alphabet, then sh, ch, th, wh, ck, ng and nk. The first time your child reads a full story alone.

Stages 4–6

Blends, Magic E, vowel teams

Beginning and ending blends, silent e, then ai, ay, ee, ea, oa, ow and igh.

Stages 7–9

Bossy R to big words

ar, or, er, ir, ur, then oo, ou, oi, aw, ew, and endings like -ed, -ing, -ful and -ly.

3-minute placement test

Three minutes tells you which stage to begin with, so you never start too easy or too hard.

How it works

Ten minutes. Every night.

No lesson planning. Print one lesson pack, sit down together, and follow the page.

Four-step ten-minute routine: warm-up, first read, read again, celebrate
First read is work. Second read is confidence.

Warm up (2 min)

A few word cards with the sounds in tonight’s story.

First read (4 min)

They sound it out. The guide tells you what to say on every page.

Read again (3 min)

Smoother, faster, prouder. This is where confidence shows up.

Celebrate (1 min)

Mark the tracker. “I read it myself!”

One lesson pack: warm-up cards, illustrated story, and an activity page

Fair questions

“Will it work for my child?”

“I am not a teacher.”

You do not need to be. Every lesson tells you what to say, and the parent guide walks you through the routine.

“My child already knows some letters.”

Perfect. Take the 3-minute placement test and start at the stage that feels achievable.

“I do not want more screen time.”

It is printed paper and a pencil. Ten minutes, then done.

“What if it does not work?”

Email us within 365 days and we refund you. You keep the files.

FAQ

How do I get it?

Right after checkout you get an email with a link to your access page. You download everything there and open the web app. Nothing is mailed.

Do I have to print all of it?

No. You print tonight’s lesson, a few pages at home, at a library or at a print shop. Ink-saving black & white versions are included.

What ages is it for, and will it help a struggling reader?

It is designed for beginning and struggling readers ages 4–8, especially children who know some letter sounds but still guess. Take the placement test and start at the first stage that feels achievable.

Do I need teaching experience?

None. The parent guide tells you what to say on every page.

Can I use it with more than one child?

Yes. One purchase covers all the children in your home, and teachers may use it with their students. The files may not be shared, resold or redistributed.

How long does it last?

There is no time limit and you keep the files forever. Most families settle into ten minutes a night and move through the stages at their own pace.

Is there a guarantee?

Yes. 365 days, money back, and you keep the files. Email hello@mastermodules.com.
